Team Vlad - We made it!

Despite cooking the brakes on the Grimsel pass and suffering from repeated overheating Team Vlad made it back to the UK at 6pm BST on Saturday 22 September after a gruelling 3,200 mile "flight" to Rimmini and back.

Chief Pilot Jimbo was heard to comment "arrgh my back!" as he exited from the cramped cockpit conditions suffered by our heroic "flying aces" Vlad and Jimbo.

Team Vlad are planning to “fly” all the way to Italy and back in a bid to raise money for local hospices St. Gemma’s, Leeds and St. Michael’s, Harrogate in a £100 car!


Tim Reeve from Leeds and Jim Overend from Harrogate have been planning the Charity fundraising trip since January which is part of the “Scally Rally”.


The rules require entrants to purchase a car for £100 or less and drive to Italy. The duo have aquired a VW Golf with over 100,000 miles on the clock and have converted the vehicle to represent an RAF bomber (well almost!).


Cruising at an altitude of 2’6” and an average of 50 knots the team hope to complete the 3,000 mile round trip in a week. The route takes them through Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy and includes some challenging roads such as the infamous Stelvio Pass.


The team hope to raise over £5,000, to be split between these very worthy charities and are seeking sponsorship for their event. All monies raised will go directly to the charities.
